What is this?

This is the wiki for the MetaNetwork (http://www.metanetwork.ca).

Oh, you meant what is the MetaNetwork?

It's a collection of encrypted tunnels that link together a variety of private LANs and turn them into one larger network (see the NetworkMap for details). It's essentially a mini-Internet for folks that already know and (usually) trust one another. This is cool once you realize that this is much like the Internet looked circa 1971 or so. The MetaNetwork allows us to play with interesting things without actually doing it on the Internet. One prime example is being able to provide a redundant root DNS server using Anycast – this would not be possible on the Internet without a fairly substantial amount of money.

Who does this?

Folks running the core routers of the MetaNetwork: Tillman, Scott, Smitty, guppy, Jim

Other folks involved in the MetaNetwork (generally running a "stub network"): Garett, Lonny, Alex, Graeme?, dwon?

IRC regulars without a MetaNetwork connection include: Wrexie, Bill?, HJL?, Levon?, Keeb?, Colin

We sometimes post funny quotes from IRC to http://bash.prv (http://metanetwork.ca/bash/ for those not on the metanetwork). This used to be the FunnyThings page, but it's not deprecated. Note that this in no way represents anyone's official position or that of their employer. It's IRC, get a grip :-P
